It is designed to cover the theoretical and the practical aspects of entrepreneurship.  Entrepreneurship theory focuses on the development and growth of entrepreneurship, the entrepreneurial mindset, the entrepreneurial process and the role of creativity and imagination.   The syllabus also acquaints students with the essentials of business ownership, legal and regulatory frameworks, and the importance of market research, feasibility analysis and the development of a business model in order to successfully compete in the marketplace.  Finally, the course provides a good foundation for further studies in Entrepreneurship, starting and operating a venture and/or becoming an entrepreneurial employee (intrapreneur).

It introduces the principal functions of management - planning, organizing, leading and controlling. It also draws upon topics in management such as the environment and culture of organizations, the decision making process, motivating employees, and formulating and implementing strategy. Finally, it provides students with a background of the various schools of management.

This course is designed to provide business students with an overview of concepts and principles in business ethics. Students will become familiar with ethical issues in business. They will also become  acquainted with various philosophical approaches to ethical decision making and the practical applications involving ethical problems that arise in business sector organizations. The corporate social responsibility and corporate governance will be explored. 

The purpose of this course is to provide students an introduction to Business Law in Belize plus international factors that influence such laws. Students will have an understanding of the classifications of Business law by making reference to the sources, namely, contract law, tort law, the law of companies and partnerships, and employment law.  The course will also require students to get familiarize and develop a background of the constitution of Belize, and the process of law in Belize.This  course  will also  enable students to understand the legal method, certain legal principles, and the English legal system.  Students learn legal reasoning and analysis and acquire knowledge of substantive areas of law. The course emphasizes thinking, speaking, and writing clearly.
Students should leave the course with the ability to recognize legal issues and discuss them intelligently.

It introduces students to the three interrelated areas of finance - Financial Management, Investments, and Financial Markets and Institutions. It looks at several key financial concepts – sources of finance, risk and return, time value of money, and valuation of assets (stock, bonds and their derivatives). It covers the role and functioning of financial markets and institutions. It also addresses the need for financial institutions – Central Bank and the Securities and Exchange Commission in the monitoring of organizations. In addition, financial statements are analyzed through financial ratios. Finally, it explores the use of investment methods (criteria) as aids to decision making.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Small Business Management introduces the nature of entrepreneurship. It provides students with a background of the different skills required for small business management. It focuses on challenges and opportunities faced by entrepreneurs, the environments impact on small business, identifying agencies and describing the types of agencies that offer assistance to small business. It also draws on topics including the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs and challenges faced by them, choosing a type of business and operations management, globalization, e-commerce, marketing and market research, finance, and developing and presenting a business plan.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course introduces students to the relevance and importance of ethics and social responsibility in business.  Important learning objectives are to increase students’ awareness and understanding of ethical issues in business, and to provide students with useful conceptual tools to guide analysis and decisions. The ultimate intent of the course is to leave students better equipped to identify, think critically about, and resolve ethical issues that are encountered in one’s working life at the individual, organizational, and societal levels.
